ECONYL® Nylon and Art for Responsible Change
We, at Aquafil, believe in the power of collaboration as a means for circularity and virtuous initiatives, that open ourselves to endless possibilities. With this in mind, in 2022 we stepped out of our field and embraced art.
The partnerships with ArtVerona and Il Mare Artigiano are examples of this commitment and how art and regeneration can come together to create a lasting impact.
ArtVerona and the “Red Carpet”: Regenerated Creativity
Since 2022, Aquafil has collaborated with ArtVerona through the special “Red Carpet” initiative, a project that explores the union of creativity and responsibility. Thanks to the use of regenerated ECONYL® yarn, each edition of the “Red Carpet” has provided artists with the opportunity to express a new vision of art, centered around themes of sustainability and innovation.
Works by artists such as Stefano Arienti and Peter Halley have transformed the “Red Carpet” into a space for reflection and creativity. This year, with Ugo Rondinone’s new installation, The Rainbow Brick Road, the artistic journey continues, offering new reinterpretations.
“Il Mare Artigiano”: The Project
Another significant project is Il Mare Artigiano, promoted by Aquafil in collaboration with Healthy Seas. This initiative represents a journey that begins from the sea and goes through art, transforming recycled materials into extraordinary works of art.
During the Helmut Newton. Legacy retrospective at Palazzo Reale in Milan in 2023, 1,300 square meters of carpet made with ECONYL® regenerated yarn (made from recovered nylon waste such us fishing nets, old carpets and plastic components) covered the exhibition floors. Afterward, over 1,000 square meters of this carpet were recovered for future use, while 200 square meters were entrusted to eight artists, who transformed the regenerated material into unique works of art.
The artists drew inspiration from themes of circular economy and sustainability, creating pieces that reflect the beauty and potential of reuse. Il Mare Artigiano is not just an artistic project; it is a concrete initiative aimed at raising awareness and promoting tangible actions.

Social and Environmental Responsibility
These collaborations strengthen Aquafil’s commitment to a more conscious future, where innovation and creativity work together to promote positive and tangible change not only from an environmental standpoint but from a social standpoint too.
In fact, all of the artistic carpets sold will help support social and environmental causes such as the safeguarding the seas and marine life by Healthy Seas Foundation and the fight against domestic abuse by Alba Chiara Association.
