ECONYL® Regenerated Nylon Featured at OLTREPLASTICA Exhibition in Milan
From December 5, 2025, to January 15, 2026, the ADI Design Museum in Milan will host OLTREPLASTICA, an exhibition dedicated to the evolving meaning and potential of plastic materials within contemporary design. Aquafil’s ECONYL® regenerated nylon will be featured among the materials selected to illustrate new pathways for innovation. The opening event will take place on Thursday, December 4, starting at 6:00 PM.
Exploring the Metamorphosis of Plastic
OLTREPLASTICA examines the metamorphosis of plastic and the role of design in redefining its cultural, technical, and material significance. Through objects, materials, and pioneering processes, the exhibition highlights how scientific research, industry, and design practice are contributing to a more conscious and responsible approach to plastics.
“Science and technology today need new questions in order to develop new answers aligned with the values of social progress. Only a discipline aware that design cannot limit itself to cautiously measuring the distance from set objectives will help us understand the dynamic characteristics that continuous change in the contemporary world imposes,” comments ADI President Luciano Galimberti.
Curated by Frida Doveil and produced by the ADI Design Museum, the exhibition explores the transition pathways that accompany plastic “beyond” its origins, observing the relationship between material culture, industrial innovation, and environmental responsibility.
ECONYL® Regenerated Nylon at the Exhibition
Since 2011, Aquafil has been transforming complex nylon waste—such as old carpets, discarded fishing nets, and industrial plastics—into ECONYL® regenerated nylon, a material that matches the performance of conventional nylon while enabling new design approaches rooted in resource recovery.
By presenting ECONYL® regenerated nylon within OLTREPLASTICA, the exhibition offers a perspective on how materials can evolve through innovation and how designers can work with regenerated resources across sectors including interiors, automotive, fashion, naval, and many other applications.
Its inclusion highlights how regenerated materials can open new pathways for design experimentation, enabling architects, designers, and manufacturers to reinterpret products through contemporary practices rooted in innovation and responsibility.
The presence of the ECONYL® brand at the ADI Design Museum reflects the growing dialogue between design, material innovation, and responsible approaches to production. The producer, Aquafil, is proud to contribute to a narrative that looks at plastics through new lenses—ones that value transformation, creativity, and the continuous evolution of materials.
