NeoCon 2015: Aquafil USA launches the ECONYL® Global Collection into North America
Today at NeoCon, Aquafil USA officially launches its ECONYL® Global Collection into the North American market. The collection, which made its European debut at Domotex earlier this year, boasts 137 yarn colors, allowing carpet manufacturers and end-users to design more than 10,000 possible color combinations.
ECONYL is a sustainably manufactured 900-denier solution dyed nylon, which offers excellent performance in carpeting for commercial, healthcare and institutional environments. The bleach-resistant fiber allows for the rich, vibrant colors to withstand years of wear, cleaning and maintenance without fading. The full color spectrum of the ECONYL Global Collection is on display at Aquafil USA booth #11-107.
Several Aquafil USA customers are also launching new carpet collections at NeoCon today made with ECONYL fiber, including Interface’s “Equal Measure” and “Near & Far” collections (booth #10-136) and Mannington Commercial’s “Good Form 2”, “Urban Patina”, “Urban Grid” and “Divergent” (booth #1039).
In addition to the aesthetic benefits, products made with ECONYL are widely known to be a sustainable design choice for carpet manufacturers and interior designers. ECONYL is included on the list of materials eligible for LEED® points (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) as part of the definition of worldwide standards for eco-friendly buildings. ECONYL yarn is manufactured from 100 percent regenerated nylon 6 waste materials – such as used carpets and abandoned fishing nets from around the world – and boasts the same quality and performance as yarn made from virgin petroleum fiber.
Aquafil USA recently celebrated its 16th year of U.S. manufacturing in Cartersville, Georgia as well as a major plant expansion to increase the amount of used carpet processed into its ECONYL product. The new state-of-the-art carpet shearing capabilities at the Cartersville plant will allow Aquafil USA to process more than 10 million pounds of used carpet this year to generate feedstock for the company’s ECONYL Regeneration System. The operation is projected to divert 10.5 million pounds of spent carpet from landfills in 2015, and 30 million in 2016.
Aquafil USA expects to produce more than 50 million pounds of carpet fiber for the North American carpet industry by the end of the year.
