The ECONYL® Regeneration System
After years of research and significant investment into development, Aquafil launched its flagship project, the ECONYL® regeneration system.
In 2011, the Group completed the transformation of Nylon 6 waste into regenerated ECONYL® nylon, maintaining the same quality level and performance as standard nylon.
At the core of the ECONYL® Regeneration System is a chemical recycling process that transforms nylon waste back into its original form, preserving the material’s quality and performance. By closing the loop on nylon, the system supports Aquafil’s approach to circularity and contributes to reducing the use of fossil-based resources. ECONYL® regenerated nylon enables brands to develop new products and explore innovative approaches to eco-design, while maintaining high performance standards.
For every 10,000 tonnes of ECONYL® raw material, the Group is able to save 70,000 barrels of crude oil.

The project never stops.
In July 2021, the Group launched the ECONYL® e-shop providing conscious shoppers the ability to shop products made from ECONYL® nylon in one place for the first time. The e-shop champions a range of global brands and each product is categorized according to values such as Vegan, Zero Waste, Craftsmanship, Eco Design, Ethical Labour, Size-Inclusive and Local Production, amongst others.
The platform also hosts a variety of content to educate and strengthen knowledge about sustainability and circularity for both brands and consumers.
