Aquafil Carpet Recycling #1
Established in 2017, Aquafil Carpet Recycling #1 (ACR#1) is the first Aquafil carpet recycling plant in the US. The ACR#1 receives post-consumer carpets from the Aquafil Carpet Collection facilities and uses state-of-the-art equipment to fully disassemble the waste into their three main components: Nylon 6, Polypropylene and Calcium Carbonate.
The Nylon 6 is regenerated into ECONYL® yarn, a 100% recycled and recyclable nylon with the same quality as nylon made from virgin materials. The recovered polypropylene is recycled into injection-molding production and calcium carbonate goes into road construction and concrete.
Recovering and recycling are key to closing the loop on carpet manufacturing. Each Aquafil Carpet Recycling facility recovers 36 million pounds of old carpet each year, the equivalent of 27 Airbus A380 planes that are otherwise destined for landfills.
